Simply put, Illinois GROUNDWORK “provides green infrastructure research, tools and resources to stormwater professionals, local leaders and community members.” It’s a program supported by the University of Illinois Extension and Illinois-Indiana Sea Grant, and they reached out to Jackson Sky to help build their website.

In addition to an in-depth description of the GSI Design Process, the site features a robust resources section. The Resource Library includes more than 200 items, which can be filtered by topic, design process and media type.

Plant selection plays a key role in the long-term success of green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) design, and the Plant Finder offers an extensive database of plant options. Each plant includes an image and can be searched and filtered by criteria such as light requirements, height, bloom time, color, soil preferences, native status and more. This tool has become a go-to resource for other programs due to its comprehensive features and wealth of information.

We’re proud to have played a role in making Illinois GROUNDWORK’s valuable information accessible and easy to use. By creating a site that’s intuitive, searchable and visually engaging, we’re helping support their mission to equip communities and professionals with the tools they need to design, build and maintain sustainable green infrastructure across the region.
