If you’ve ever received a proposal from Jackson Sky, you’ve probably noticed a section outlining our optional hosting services. While we include the details of this service, it’s not uncommon for clients to ask about domain name registration and email addresses — and how those fit in.

This post explains the difference between the three and what we do (and don’t) offer.

Domain Name Registration

This refers to purchasing your domain name — the address people type into their browser to find you. For example, our primary domain is jacksonsky.com but we also purchased jacksonskycreative.com and jacksonskydesign.com. Why? Because domain names are relatively inexpensive (typically under $25/year) if they aren’t already owned by someone else.

Domains can be purchased from providers like GoDaddy, Network Solutions or Google Domains. Owning your domain is very important, and transferring it can be complicated and time-consuming. For that reason, we recommend clients purchase and own their domain name(s) directly. That way, you remain in full control.

Email Management

If you want email addresses that use your domain name (like you@yourcompany.com) you can manage those through services like Google Workspace. We don’t offer email setup or management ourselves but we work with a trusted local partner who manages our email and can help you as well.

Hosting & Security Services

This is where we come in! We can host your website by pointing your domain to our server. Our hosting package includes:

  • WordPress installation and database creation
  • SSL certificate installation
  • Website protection through Sucuri — including security scans, cleanups, firewall protection and daily backups
In Conclusion

Many of our clients choose to host with us because it keeps everything in one place and gives us direct access when updates are needed. That said, we don’t require you to host with us — and we regularly work with clients who use their own hosting provider (especially universities that require their own servers).

If you’re happy with your current hosting, you simply need to provide us with the necessary access to get your site up and running.
